Could the Gold Coast Soon Have a CBD?
Plans are currently being discussed for a true CBD to be established in Southport, under proposals announced by mayor Tom Tate.
He will write to the state government requesting that Southport is classified as a Priority Development Area (PDA) – if given the go ahead, it would be the first PDA for Queensland that covers a CBD.
Mayor Tate explained that if a CBD were to be established, it would cover the old hospital site and Chinatown.
He continued: "As a hub for education, health and business, and with superb community assets like the Broadwater Parklands and the redeveloped aquatic centre, Southport is the clear choice."
Central city areas are often a prime location for anyone looking for Gold Coast real estate, not least because of the number of facilities and infrastructure developments available.
The mayor said that one of the priorities will be making sure that the Gold Coast remains in charge of this CBD to make sure it meets the visions of the general public.
He also pointed out that the CBD would help to strengthen the area's reputation as a business centre, as well as position it in the lead up to the Commonwealth Games and other major events.
