Gold Coast One Step Closer to New Cultural Landmark

Owners of Gold Coast property are one step closer to enjoying a brand new cultural landmark in the city, after the city council announced the three design finalists for the project last week.

In 2012, the City of Gold Coast made plans to construct a new landmark cultural precinct.

An 11-hectare site has been chosen to host the project, and will be located at Evandale. Included in the precinct will be an array of cafes and restaurants, as well as production studios and areas for creative industries and arts.

The City of Gold Coast created a competition upon the project's announcement to determine a designer.

Three finalists were chosen out of 75 global entries and include ARM Architecture, CRAB_VOGT_DBI, and Nikken Sekkei. The three firms will all compete against one another for the opportunity to design the project.

The teams have been awarded $250,000 each to participate in a 12-week long design period.

"This competition has trained some of the world’s best design minds on our city and what will be our future cultural heart," said Gold Coast mayor Tom Tate.

The final winner of the competition is expected to be released later this year.
