Gold Coast welcomes new City Parking Plan

Residents of property in Robina could find it becomes easier to find parking while out and about in the Gold Coast, as the local council reveals details of its 2015 City Parking Plan.

It involves a combination of new pricing mechanisms and state-of-the-art technologies to make parking spaces more readily available, especially when demand is at its highest.

The local council hopes this will reduce congestion throughout the city, as well as bring benefits to many local businesses.

"In a similar scheme in San Francisco, the time spent finding a parking space was cut by 43 per cent and there was a 30 per cent cut in vehicle miles," revealed Gold Coast mayor Tom Tate.

New parking meters will be installed throughout the region, while parking bay sensors and monitoring systems shall help motorists find spaces as fast as possible.

There are also plans to increase the number of available spaces, while parking rates will be changed to reflect conditions in the local area.

Broadbeach and Burleigh Heads will be pioneering the scheme in mid-2015, with a view to it being rolled out across the whole of the Gold Coast at a later date if it proves successful.
