Market scene goes from strength to strength

Local markets are just one of the perks of living in property in Broadbeach Waters and the Gold Coast council has seen some notable improvements over recent months.

That's because restrictions on market traders were relaxed, giving customers access to more quality goods than ever before.

Sarah Schoella, co-founder of the popular Village Markets at Burleigh Heads and Paradise Point, believes every opportunity to support local businesses should be used.

"The relaxation of council policy has allowed us to expand our market, bringing a much needed cultural event to the northern end of the Gold Coast," Ms Schoella commented.

"Importantly, The Village Markets is now attracting a wider audience to the coast, with the majority of visitors attending The Village Markets at Paradise Point from Brisbane and surrounding areas."

One of the main attractions of the local markets has been the promise of fresh, seasonal produce – something that would not have been possible before the changes were made.

A limit was imposed on the type of food that could be sold, while all food and drinks had to be pre-packaged in order to appear on the stalls.

However, it was obvious that customers wanted more from the markets and so these restrictions were reassessed by the council.
