Parkland proves a hit with locals
One of the reasons real estate in the Gold Coast is so popular is the great outdoor lifestyle it has to offer – and this is was improved even further when the Ormeau Sports Park opened last year.
The facility has recently marked its first birthday, giving locals the chance to reflect on just how important the area has become to their everyday lives.
Ormeau Sports Park spans 12.6 hectares, and school children from the surrounding area have been involved in making sure it's playing its part for the environment.
They've so far planted around 3,000 native species in the area, adding to the already extensive range of plants that can be seen at the park.
Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said: "Looking after our open spaces is core business for the city.
"This project is just a small part of our $139 million investment this year in nature conservation, managing our parks and natural areas, beaches, catchments and waterways, tourist parks and campgrounds."
Children volunteered their free time to get involved in the project. There are already 23,000 plants throughout the area, and the local council is working towards having a total of 48,000 in place.
