Surf plan on cards for Gold Coast

Think of the name 'Gold Coast'. Roll it around in your mouth a little. Let it sit on the tip of your tongue. What's the first thing that comes to your mind?

We're going to go out on a limb here and say that, if it's not the sun, the friendly atmosphere and the copious amounts of beautiful apartments for rent in Broadbeach, it's probably the surf. Every year, tens, even hundreds of thousands of people around the world come to these sunny shores to give the Gold Coast's famous surf a whirl. 

Which is exactly why the city government has just formed a 10-person committee to create a surf plan for the Gold Coast. 

"The plan will recognise the importance of surfing to the city's lifestyle and economy," Gold Coast mayor Tom Tate said in a 30 September release. 

"It will draw upon the collective knowledge of the committee members while summarising the existing scientific knowledge around surf quality that exists on the Gold Coast."

The committee will identify and propose ways to tackle any surf-user issues and threats to surfing, create a point of reference for the design of future beach management initiatives and identify any laws programs and projects that affect our city's surf amenities. 

All of this will help ensure the Gold Coast stays the world's top surf destination for years to come.
