Gold Coast readers rejoice!

One of the great things about the Gold Coast is that it accommodates a range of lifestyle choices. Sure, the beautiful beaches and constant sunny days means that, more often not, you'll be outside enjoying what nature has to offer.

But that doesn't mean that only bronze gods and goddesses who need to feel the surf on their skin every second hour are to be found in apartments in Broadbeach and the Gold Coast. You might also have other hobbies – like, say, curling up with a good book.

If so, then lucky you. This year's budget for the city of Gold Coast has set aside just over $25 million for the city's libraries for 2014-15. And this was all thanks to the prolific readers who live in the sun-spotted area, who expressed their support for investment in libraries during the recent community survey.

Readers who happen to own Gold Coast property should take note of some of the changes coming to the city's libraries. Broadbeach, Robina and Southport libraries will all stay open extra hours on Saturdays.

The Gold Coast will no doubt collectively rejoice. According to a 24 June release by Mayor Tom Tate, library members make up half the city's population, and more than 8,000 people visit one of its libraries every day.
