Learn About Broadbeach’s Rich History

Buyers interested in houses for sale in Broadbeach may not know about the interesting stories the suburb has to tell.

Officially announced as a seaside township in 1934, Broadbeach has served many purposes in its time. Its sand dunes were mined by Southport Minerals during World War II and the concentrated minerals were exported overseas for the production of welding equipment and alloy steels.

By mid-1959, however, mining ceased and the dunes were reconstructed. Grasses and trees were planted on the banks and the land was auctioned with a view to be redeveloped.

Gold Coast real estate buffs will be interested to know that Lennons Broadbeach hotel kicked off the commercial and housing development of the suburb in 1957.

It was built on a site previously mined, and was promoted as "an oasis in the desert". Ironically, it is now an Oasis commercial centre in Victoria Avenue.

Today, Broadbeach retains its beachside charm and beautiful sand dunes. It's also got enough shopping and nightlife to shake a stick at, which is one of the reasons tourists flock to it from far and wide.
