New Gold Coast Council Grant Aims to Provide Funding for Local Meet and Greets

The importance of community should never be underrated, which is why the Gold Coast local council is establishing a way for neighbourhood meet and greets in the near future. This could be a great way for residents of Gold Coast property to mingle with others living in their local area.

Acting Mayor Donna Gates said the region won an Australian Crime and Violence Prevention Award and $5,000 prize money, which will be used as grants for the establishment of local meet and greets. Not-for-profits can apply for a $500 grant, while local residents can secure $100 worth of funds to run these events.

"It's a casual, low-cost way to meet your neighbours and creates a sense of community where people look out for each other," said Cr Gates in a March 28 statement.

"These events are truly grassroots, we're just offering some financial help, a kit to download and your street does the rest."

With fun family-friendly games and conversation, these types of get-togethers could be a great option to help increase the closeness of your local community. For more information on how to get involved, visit the Meet Our Street page on the Gold Coast council website.
