QLD Real Estate Policies ‘a Boon for Residents’

Buying a home in Queensland has become more cost-effective for residents in the state due to new government policies introduced over the last year.

This is according to premier Campbell Newman, who highlighted a number of initiatives the Liberal National Party (LNP) has implemented to lower the cost of living for Queensland households.

The reintroduction of the Principal Place of Residence scheme was important, he explained, enabling families to save up to $7,000 on a house purchase through stamp duty concessions.

People who own Gold Coast property may also have benefited from a water connection rebate of $80, with a number of houses and apartments in the south-east of Queensland eligible for the refund.

"Easing the financial burden on families was one of our key election commitments and I'm proud that we have been able to deliver," Mr Newman said.

"The cost of living soared under Labor and it was important that we acted quickly to bring this under control."

Another way in which the LNP government has attempted to lower living costs is through freezing the electricity tariff for a year.

Premier Newman claimed this had helped more than 1.2 million energy customers to save around $120.
