‘Silicon Beach’ startup secures new space in refurbished Bundall building

The last remaining space in “the best office on the Gold Coast” — a sought-after building on the doorstep of the city’s newest cultural destination — has been snared by a local business.

Ray White Broadbeach’s Adam Grbcic, whose listing includes the glowing description, has leased the whole of level two at 9 Ouyan Street, Bundall, to NewBook Pty Ltd.

The cloud-based business technology company will relocate from its current Southport premises in March 2018.

Mr Grbcic says the deal for the for the 787sqm space has taken a big chunk of A-grade office stock off the Gold Coast market, which is becoming known as a hub for business startups.

In November 2017, NewBook founder and CEO Brad Illich spoke to The Australian newspaper about the “Silicon Beach” appeal of the area.

“NewBook’s attraction to this building was the innovative upgrades, the parking both on-site and in surrounding areas, and the aspect which looks over the Surfers Paradise skyline,” Mr Grbcic says.

“The private rooftop deck has views to rival those from some of the best penthouses in Australia.

“The building is adjacent to the Gold Coast Cultural Precinct, a new arts destination within walking distance of Surfers Paradise.

“The first stage of the project, which is planned over the next 10 to 15 years, has been delivered in time for the Commonwealth Games in April.”

Mr Grbcic says the the building, which is owned by Terry Morris Pty Ltd, is now fully leased.

“The landlord has refurbished the building over the past 12 months and work has included power and air-conditioning system upgrades, a new state-of-the-art building management system and a renovated foyer,” he says.

“It’s certainly one of the most attractive and well-appointed A-grade buildings on the Gold Coast and this significant deal demonstrates the continued strength of the city’s leasing market.”

The leasing rate has not been disclosed but industry sources indicate the boutique building is commanding around $450 per square metre thanks to its premium riverside location and high-end features.

Basement parking for 20 vehicles is included in the deal.
